Metallic Acrylic Prints Bring Incredible Detail to Iris Photography
Some photographs deserve a presentation that goes beyond a traditional photographic print. For this recent Brisbane project, we produced a striking pair of 600 × 300 mm metallic acrylic prints featuring highly detailed iris photography.
The combination of vivid blue tones, fine iris detail and a deep black background made these images particularly well suited to our premium metallic acrylic finish.
Choosing the Right Acrylic Printing Finish
Our client initially considered both our SwissQ acrylic and metallic acrylic options. Both create a contemporary, frameless presentation, but metallic acrylic offers a distinctly different photographic character.
The metallic acrylic finish adds depth and subtle shimmer to highlights and areas of strong contrast, helping detailed photographs develop an almost three-dimensional appearance.
After discussing the differences between the two options, our client selected metallic acrylic for both pieces.
For iris photography in particular, this was an excellent choice. The metallic finish emphasises the intricate fibres, colour variations and natural patterns within each eye while maintaining the deep blacks surrounding the subject.
Preparing the Images for Large-Format Acrylic Printing
High-quality source files play an important role when producing detailed photographic prints.
The original files supplied by email did not contain enough resolution for the required 600 × 300 mm print size, so we requested the original high-resolution photographs before moving forward. Once the larger files arrived, we checked them and confirmed they were suitable for production.
Taking this step allowed us to retain the fine detail visible throughout each iris rather than compromising image quality during enlargement.
Producing the Metallic Acrylic Prints
We produced two individual 600 × 300 mm metallic acrylic photo prints, creating a matching pair designed to be displayed together.
Each piece also received a rear baton hanging assembly, allowing the acrylic artwork to hang cleanly without a conventional picture frame.
After mounting the images, our team completed the final sanding and polishing before preparing the finished pieces for collection from our Kelvin Grove studio.
The frameless presentation keeps attention firmly on the photography. Against the glossy black background, the two irises appear exceptionally crisp, while the metallic surface brings additional luminosity to the pale blues, whites and warmer amber details.
A Contemporary Alternative to Traditional Framing
Acrylic photo printing works particularly well with images that feature strong colour, fine detail and contrast.
The clean edges and hidden hanging system give the finished artwork a contemporary appearance, making acrylic prints suitable for modern homes, offices, studios, reception areas and commercial interiors.

The Finished Result
Once completed, the two metallic acrylic prints measured 600 × 300 mm each and were supplied ready to hang with their rear baton assemblies.
The finished photographs show just how effectively acrylic presentation can enhance an image without distracting from it with a traditional frame.
Most importantly, our client was delighted with the result, describing the finished prints as “fabulous” after seeing the completed pieces.
