How Prolab Helped Bring the Internal//External AR Exhibition to Life

At Prolab, we take pride in supporting artists and creatives who push the boundaries of visual storytelling. Last year, we played a key role in Internal//External, an innovative augmented reality (AR) art exhibition that transformed public spaces into immersive digital experiences.
Developed in partnership with Merivale Studios and the Fish Lane Arts Precinct, the exhibition formed part of Melt Festival 2024. It invited audiences to explore the relationship between internal and external identities through contemporary art and interactive technology.
A New Way to Experience Public Art

Curated by Phoebe Paradise and Helena Papageorgiou, Internal//External featured five exceptional Australian artists:
Using AR technology from EyeJack, the exhibition presented each artwork as a dual narrative, one version visible in the physical realm and another digitally animated, accessible through a smartphone. Visitors could scan the artwork and watch it come to life with movement and sound, creating a truly immersive experience.
Charlie Maycraft – Emotional Portraiture and Self-Expression
Charlie Maycraft’s expressive figurative works delve into personal and collective narratives, often exploring themes of identity, emotion, and vulnerability. Their Internal//External piece captures a moment of quiet contemplation, a portrait that, when activated through AR, deepens its storytelling, inviting viewers to connect with the raw and introspective nature of the work.
Prolab’s Contribution to the Exhibition
As a key supporter of Internal//External, Prolab provided high-quality printing and display solutions that ensured each piece was produced with exceptional clarity and durability. Our expertise in fine art reproduction and exhibition graphics helped bring the artists’ visions to life strikingly and tangibly.
We were proud to work alongside fellow supporters Spicers, Aria Property Group, and EyeJack to make this project possible.
Reflecting on an Innovative Exhibition
Melt Festival 2024 may have ended, but Internal//External left a lasting impact on audiences, demonstrating the power of technology, art, and storytelling. The exhibition showcased how digital innovation can expand the possibilities of public art, and Prolab was thrilled to be part of this creative journey.
We continue to support artists, galleries, and curators in bringing their ideas to life. If you’re planning an upcoming exhibition and need expert printing and display solutions, contact Prolab today!
