Custom Acrylic-Mounted Hema Map for Stone Axe Pastoral Company

When Stone Axe Pastoral Company needed a large-format Australian map for its Brisbane office, the team wanted more than a conventional framed print. They wanted a clean, contemporary display that would complement the other custom artwork we had already produced for the space.

Jubilee Framers worked closely with Stone Axe Pastoral Company and Hema Maps to produce a custom acrylic-mounted Australia Road & Terrain map, complete with Stone Axe branding and detailed route markings.

Creating a Corporate Map Display with a Modern Finish

Stone Axe Pastoral Company had previously commissioned landscape canvases and a large framed bull portrait for its Brisbane office. For the next stage of the office fit-out, the company selected a customised Hema Australia Road & Terrain map.

The detailed map included Stone Axe branding and highlighted routes through regional Australia. Because the map contained fine cartographic information, place names and road markings, the finished display needed to preserve clarity while creating a strong visual presence on the wall.

Rather than place the map behind traditional glazing and a surrounding frame, we recommended an acrylic-mounted print. This approach gave the map a sleek, frameless appearance while enhancing its colour, contrast and fine detail.

Coordinating a High-Resolution File for One-Time Production

Producing the preferred acrylic finish required access to the original high-resolution artwork rather than an existing physical print.

Stone Axe Pastoral Company worked directly with Hema Maps to arrange a controlled, one-time release of the digital map file. We accepted the artwork under the agreed production conditions and used it exclusively to manufacture this single office display.

This collaborative process allowed us to reproduce the map at a high standard while respecting the intellectual property and licensing requirements attached to the custom cartography.

Resizing the Map to Fit the Available Wall

Once we received the high-resolution file, we completed our production checks and reviewed its natural proportions.

The original dimensions discussed for the project did not match the proportions of the supplied artwork. Producing the map at the initially proposed height would have made the finished piece wider than the available wall.

After Stone Axe confirmed a maximum wall width of 1400mm, we resized the artwork proportionally to approximately:

1400mm wide × 1225mm high

This adjustment retained the complete map without cropping any cartographic detail. It also ensured the final display would fit the nominated office wall correctly.

Careful proportional scaling remains especially important for maps, architectural plans and information-rich artwork. Cropping or distorting this type of image can remove valuable details or affect the accuracy of the design.

Producing the Large Acrylic-Mounted Map

We produced the map as a large-format SwissQ acrylic print using:

  • 6mm clear acrylic
  • 3mm white aluminium composite backing
  • A concealed split-batten hanging assembly

The white backing supported the image and helped maintain the brightness and colour of the printed map. The substantial acrylic face created a polished, high-end finish while keeping the many roads, locations and terrain details clearly visible.

At 1400mm wide, the finished map delivers considerable visual impact without overwhelming the office space.

A Concealed Hanging System for a Floating Appearance

Large acrylic-mounted artwork requires a secure and carefully considered hanging method.

We fitted a concealed split-batten system to the rear of the map. During installation, the wall section of the batten is fixed level, and the completed piece hooks securely into place.

Because the hanging hardware remains hidden behind the artwork, the map sits neatly away from the wall and creates a subtle floating appearance. This system also distributes the weight across the back of the piece rather than placing pressure on isolated fixing points.

Completing Delivery to the Brisbane Office

After completing our final quality checks, we packaged the acrylic map and coordinated delivery directly to Stone Axe Pastoral Company’s Brisbane office.

The completed display combines practical information, corporate branding and custom interior presentation in one distinctive piece. It also complements the landscape canvases and bull portrait already created for the company, helping establish a consistent visual identity throughout the workplace.
