Breathing New Life Into Flood-Damaged Sailing Photos

At Prolab in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane, we recently had the privilege of restoring a series of precious sailing photographs that had been severely damaged by floodwaters. The collection, filled with historic racing memories, required careful handling and a multi-step restoration process. Our team provided high-resolution scanning, digital retouching, archival printing, professional mounting, and custom framing with museum-grade glazing to bring these images back to life.

High-Resolution Scanning and Image Recovery

Each original print was carefully assessed and scanned using our state-of-the-art archival scanning equipment. Many of the original photos showed signs of water damage, wrinkling, and fading. With a focus on preserving detail, we created high-resolution digital files that served as the base for full image restoration.

Expert Retouching and Colour Restoration

Using professional retouching techniques, we digitally removed blemishes, water stains, and discolouration. The skies were brightened, ocean blues restored, and text made crisp again. Our team took care to maintain the authenticity of the original photos while enhancing clarity and contrast for reprinting.

Archival Fine Art Printing and Mounting

With restored files ready, we produced new prints on archival-grade photographic fine art paper. This ensures long-term durability and vibrancy. The prints were then mounted on acid-free backing boards, stabilising the artwork and preventing future warping or damage.

Custom Framing with Museum-Grade Glazing

To complete the project, each photograph was reframed using high-quality materials sourced from Jubilee Framers, our trusted partner. We selected frames to complement each image and used museum-grade glazing to provide superior UV protection, clarity, and anti-reflective properties—ideal for preserving these sailing images for years to come.
