Professionally Capturing the Original Paintings

The first stage involved professionally scanning the two original paintings at our Kelvin Grove studio.

Artwork scanning captures far more detail than a standard photograph. It allows us to preserve the colours, brushwork, tonal variations and subtle surface characteristics of the original piece while creating a high-resolution digital file suitable for enlargement.

Because Lisa wanted to increase each artwork from 30 × 30 cm to approximately 120 × 120 cm, the digital files needed enough detail to withstand a four-times enlargement without losing the character of the paintings.

Preparing the Files for Large Canvas Printing

Once we captured the original artworks, our team prepared the files for large-format canvas printing.

This process included reviewing:

• Colour balance and tonal accuracy
• Fine detail within the painted areas
• Enlargement quality
• Overall contrast and saturation
• The relationship between the two artworks as a pair

We retained the soft greens, warm neutral tones, deep teal areas and expressive white brushwork visible in the original paintings. Maintaining these relationships helped the enlarged prints remain faithful to Lisa’s artistic style.

Producing and Reviewing Canvas Print Tests

Before printing the full-size canvases, we produced test prints for Lisa to review in person.

Print testing plays an important role in professional artwork reproduction. A computer monitor emits light, while a canvas print reflects it. As a result, colours and tonal values can appear different once printed.

Lisa reviewed the initial tests at our studio, and we completed additional print testing before moving into final production. This collaborative approval process allowed us to refine the reproduction and confirm that the final canvas prints reflected the original artworks as closely as possible.

Artwork Scanning Brisbane Artists Can Rely On

After Lisa approved the tests, we printed both artworks onto quality canvas at approximately 120 × 120 cm.

The finished reproductions created a dramatic change in scale. Fine gestures and layered brushstrokes that appeared delicate in the small originals became bold visual features across the larger canvases.

As the accompanying photographs show, placing each original painting beside its finished reproduction highlights the scale of the transformation. Despite the significant enlargement, the canvas prints retain the colour, movement and visual balance of the original works.

Preparing the Canvases for Existing Frames

Lisa supplied measurements from her existing stretcher and floating-frame arrangement so we could prepare the prints for the intended presentation.

Her stretcher measured approximately 122.2 × 122.2 cm, while the internal dimensions of the floating frame were approximately 124.5 × 125.5 cm. Confirming these measurements helped ensure the completed pieces would work with her planned framing setup.

We also confirmed the correct orientation of each artwork before completion, ensuring the pieces could be presented exactly as the artist intended.

A Successful Fine Art Reproduction Project

The completed canvases demonstrate how professional artwork scanning and large-format canvas printing can give original paintings an entirely new presence.

Lisa collected both finished pieces from our Kelvin Grove studio and was very happy with the result. The project successfully transformed two small companion paintings into substantial statement artworks while preserving the distinctive colours and expressive qualities of the originals.
