"The Post Card Project" 2010

Header Film Processing

One of our recent projects involved a request for transparencies from a Digital File for inclusion in Public Art. This amazing work is by David Forbes and can be viewed street level at Brisbane State High School.

Over 400 postcards from students aged 10-University and members of the community were digitized, composited, printed by Prolab as transparencies, back lit with neon and mounted on an exterior glass wall.

The focus of this project: Life in West End in the present and future.

Our involvement from the initial consultation stage of testing through to completion of the works described below was extremely rewarding. Pure Professional Kodak Backlit Transparency Media was used which allowed for the continuous tone finish so greatly admired in the finish design.

This schematic showing how the entire piece looks over its 32 metre (100 foot) span. The yellow blocks represent individual postcards, 60 per panel (15 columns and 10 rows). They are mounted onto a glass wall panels by Prolab and backlit with neon. The grey squares represent concrete sections; these have the word “community” and 9 definitions painted on them.
