Grand Master

Three out of Robyn Hills' four photographs were given Silver Awards at the recent Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPA) judging held in Melbourne last month. The above photo was one of the them. The other awarded images were of an ethereal seascape with seagulls in flight and another mining aerial landscape of the red earth from Emerald in Queensland.

The Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) have an accreditation system within the annual judging that allocates points to the various score levels each print gets given at APPA. Being only able to enter four photos each year and being judged anonymously by peers, it is a tough arena and a challenge to keep progressing within the scoring system. After some 25 years of entering, the three photos awarded this year gave Robyn the 65 points required – amongst other stringent criteria – to reach the level of Grand Master. Only 14 other photographers in Australia have reached this level.

The other awarded images were of an ethereal seascape with seagulls in flight and another mining aerial landscape of a Hunter Valley coal mine, all images were professionally printed by Prolab to deliver consistent results for her exhibition requirements.

The photograph on your right is shot from a helicopter; giving the viewer an aerial perspective of two rigs creating patterns in the landscape, with the mine being drilled and exploded at 3pm each day. A tie abstract design from this photograph is available for purchase from Robyn's website, click on the image to the right for more details.
